The Digital Sociology Working Group at the University of Warsaw is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the upcoming Midterm Digital Sociology Conference to be held in September 2024. In an age where the digital realm intertwines with almost every aspect of human life, the study of digital sociology becomes increasingly important. This conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore and discuss the intersections between society, sociology and the digital world.
Rapid technological advancements and increased connectivity, shapes a digital landscape that has become an integral part of contemporary society, shaping the way we interact, communicate, and navigate the world around us. As the boundaries between the physical and digital realms blur, the field of digital sociology emerges as a crucial lens through which to understand the complex interplay between technology and society.
To tackle those important issues, the Digital Sociology Working Group at the International Sociological Association organizes a Midterm Digital Sociology Conference in September 2024. This conference serves as a platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to come together and explore the diverse ways in which digital technologies intersect with social structures, institutions, and practices. By examining these intersections, we seek to understand the implications of the digital transformation on various aspects of human life, from education and healthcare to work and activism.
At the heart of digital sociology lies a commitment to interrogate the power dynamics, inequalities, and ethical dilemmas inherent in our increasingly digitized world. From issues of digital exclusion and algorithmic bias to concerns surrounding data privacy and surveillance, the conference aims to foster critical conversations that shed light on the social, cultural, and political dimensions of technology.
Furthermore, the conference provides a platform for showcasing innovative research methodologies and approaches within the field of digital sociology. As scholars grapple with the challenges of studying digital phenomena, we encourage submissions that explore novel research methods, data sources, and theoretical frameworks that push the boundaries of traditional sociological inquiry.
It is imperative that we engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration to address the pressing issues facing society today. The Digital Sociology Conference 2024 invites participants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to join us in this endeavor, as we collectively strive to deepen our understanding of the intricate relationship between technology and society.
