EAISI stimulates exploratory multidisciplinary AI research. One of the actions we undertake to reach this goal is to organize internal TU/e calls for research proposals, where a team of TU/e AI researchers can apply for the funding of PhD projects. EAISI Exploratory Multidisciplinary AI Research Program (EMDAIR) is one of the building blocks of the execution of the TU/e Artificial Intelligence Scientific Roadmap.
The program focuses on funding high-impact/high-risk projects, i.e., projects that have a high value if they are successful where we accept an associated potentially higher risk that they will not be successful. As such these projects tend to have the property that it is harder to find funding in any of the other ways that are available (national, European, industrial).
Allocation process
This is the second internal TU/e calls for proposals, providing all TU/e researchers (UD, UHD, Prof., including part-time staff) the opportunity to participate. In this call we will accept a maximum of 9 PhD positions. We invite proposals for projects with one, two, or maximally three PhDs.There are two phases in the call.
- In Phase 1, researchers are invited to send in a two-pager explaining the idea of the proposed project, what the novel contribution is, what the expected impact is, and what additional value the proposed multidisciplinarity brings.
- In Phase 2, the Scientific Board invites the elaboration of a promising subset of proposals. These proposals require significantly more effort than the original two-pager, but they are still to remain relatively compact (maximally 10 pages, excluding references).
