Swansea University's Festival of Ideas returns for 2023! We are welcoming Masters' and PhD students from across the United Kingdom to present their work in a collaborative and friendly environment that hopes to foster connections and knowledge amongst the Postgraduate Research community.
FOI '23 will be held at the Computational Foundary at Swansea University Bay Campus from Thursday 14th to Friday 15 of September.
Submission Guidelines
FOI23 will not be publishing full paper submissions or proceedings, but instead invite the following submissions:
- Short Talks describing your thesis topic or area of study in 5 minutes or less
To participate and present a short talk we kindly request that you submit a 500-word abstract outlining the key points and main ideas you intend to present during your talk. The abstract will be reviewed by our committee, consisting of student organizers, who will carefully evaluate each submission based on its relevance, clarity, and potential to contribute to the conference's overall theme.
If your abstract is accepted, you will be allotted a dedicated time slot of 5 minutes to present your talk with approximately 3 minutes for addressing questions from the audience. We encourage concise and impactful presentations, and we kindly request that you limit your slide deck to a maximum of 5 slides. This approach will ensure a dynamic and engaging experience for our attendees while allowing ample time for questions and discussion.
- Posters describing your thesis topic, recent studies or areas of future investigation
Poster sessions are a great opportunity for researchers to share their own ideas and findings, while also learning from others’ research across a wide range of academic disciplines. At the Festival of Ideas, our poster sessions aim to encourage discussions and networking, facilitating future collaborations and developing our research community.
We welcome posters on any research topic that you previously or currently work on, which explains your research in a way that is understandable to audiences from any background. Posters will be printed in A1, and can be either portrait or landscape. The deadline for submitting posters is September 1st.
We highly recommend being present for both poster sessions, taking place on the 14th and 15th of September, to ensure a sense of community and to encourage active involvement for all presenting researchers. Please note that there is no peer review process, and submitted posters will not receive a DOI.
