ICSEWEN'23 is the 3rd edition of the International Conference on Sustainable Energy, Water and Environment Nexus in Desert Climates (ICSEWEN’23) to be held in Doha, Qatar between 30th October and 2nd November 2023. ICSEWEN is the flagship conference of Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), which takes place every two years. The conference brings together scientists from the region and across the world to discuss critical challenges, innovative solutions and new advances in sustainable energy, water and environment with a focus on desert climate regions. This year’s ICSEWEN’23 is structured around five main themes and focused on innovations, solutions and impactful research. The themes are
(i) Energy Transition
(ii) Water Resources, Processes and Advances
(iii) Environmental Pollution and Mitigation
(iv) Innovative Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry

List of Themes & Technical Sessions
Theme 1 - Energy Transition
The main goal of this theme is to bring together international experts from academia and industry - as well as relevant stakeholders - to share latest research, technology and innovation developments in the area of Energy. This theme focuses on contemporary industry topics ranging from Power Systems and Smart Grids; Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems; Sustainable Energy Solutions; Sustainable Petrochemical Industry; Sustainable and Circular Chemical Economy; Smart Building Technologies; Transportation Electrification, Solar Energy Applications, Power Plants Building, Maintenance and Operations cost reduction.
Theme Chairs: Dr. Sertac Bayhan (QEERI) & Dr. Haitham Abu-Rub (TAMUQ)

Energy Demand and Efficiency
Theme 2 - Water Resources, Processes and Advances
The Water Resources, Process and Advances Theme examines the scarce water resources in the arid regions and highlights the need to maintain sustainability of water resources under intensification of water demand due to changing populations, climate change and increasing industrialization. Water is a cross-cutting theme across the pillars of the sustainable development goals, intrinsically integrating politics, culture and social values. It is impossible to talk about climate, energy, sustainable cities, food security and even poverty, health and gender equality, without considering water. Rapid development in many arid environments has outpaced the supply of public services, and aging infrastructure and water resources are coming under increasing pressure. New technologies and sustainable water management practices are needed to ensure that current and future water demands for all can be met. Multidisciplinary science, technology, policy and innovation related to the water sector will be included in the sessions under this theme.
