Conference Overview
The 20th International Conference on Knowledge Management in Organizations (KMO 2026), co-located with LTEC 2026, invites researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to engage in critical and forward-looking discussions on the future of knowledge management (KM) in the era of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI).
The rapid proliferation of GenAI—including large language models, autonomous intelligent agents, and multimodal content creation systems—is fundamentally reshaping how knowledge is created, managed, shared, and governed. These developments challenge established KM theories, methodologies, and organizational practices, while raising pressing questions related to sustainability, ethics, governance, and societal resilience.
In a world facing climate urgency, resource constraints, and demands for equitable digital futures, KMO 2026 calls for interdisciplinary scholarship that examines not only epistemic transformations but also the environmental, social, and ethical implications of AI-enabled knowledge systems. The conference aims to foster dialogue across knowledge management, information systems, organizational studies, sustainability science, cognitive science, and computer science, with a shared goal of advancing responsible, human-centered, and sustainable knowledge ecosystems.
Key Themes and Research Directions
Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Theoretical Reconfigurations of Knowledge Management: Examines how generative AI reshapes foundational KM theories, human–AI epistemologies, and sustainability-oriented knowledge systems such as circular knowledge flows.
- Sustainable Organizational Learning & Decision-Making with AI: Explores how GenAI supports adaptive learning, clarifies human–AI roles in expertise, and enhances sustainable decision-making for ESG, climate action, and organizational resilience.
- Knowledge Processes, Automation & Sustainable Operations: Investigates AI-driven automation of knowledge processes, resource-efficient KM models, and the design of sustainable digital and green knowledge infrastructures.
- Ethics, Governance & Responsible Knowledge Futures: Addresses ethical governance, environmental impacts of AI infrastructures, and issues of authenticity, trust, and accountability in AI-generated knowledge.
- Methodological Innovation & Responsible Research: Focuses on novel computational and hybrid KM research methods, sustainability evaluation of AI-enabled systems, and responsible, transparent research practices.
- Human–AI Co-Creation & Meaning-Making: Examines cognitive, social, and cultural dynamics of AI-augmented creativity while emphasizing human agency, well-being, and sustainable, human-centered knowledge practices.
- Trust, Authenticity & Socio-Environmental Responsibility: Investigates bias, fairness, trust frameworks, and the preservation of knowledge integrity within ethical and sustainable digital ecosystems.
- Organizational, Societal & Sustainability Implications: Analyzes GenAI’s influence on work, learning communities, and global knowledge ecosystems, with attention to public good, sustainability transitions, and knowledge democratization.
- Knowledge Technologies & Data Ethics: Explores generative AI technologies for knowledge creation, explainable and accountable systems, and sustainable governance of data and knowledge analytics.
- Innovation, Inclusion & Sustainable Value Creation: Focuses on knowledge-driven sustainable innovation, public sector and social impact, and education and services for future-oriented knowledge societies.
- Big Data, Cloud & Green Digital Transformation: Examines energy-efficient AI, sustainable cloud and data infrastructures, and responsible analytics addressing security, privacy, and ethics.
- Organizational & Social Dimensions of KM: Investigates KM’s role in sustainable development, societal learning, resilient knowledge networks, and collaborative knowledge co-production.
- IoT, Decentralized Technologies & Sustainable KM Ecosystems: Explores IoT and decentralized technologies such as blockchain for transparent, trustworthy, and sustainable knowledge infrastructures in smart and sustainable environments.
- Governance, Strategy & People: Addresses the design of sustainable KM strategies, responsible performance measurement, and equitable access, diffusion, and protection of knowledge assets.
