23rd International Conference for Ethics Across the Curriculum Theme: The Ethics of Engagement October 6-8, 2022 University of Mississippi Oxford, MS Keynote Speaker: Brian Berkey (University of Pennsylvania) ethicist and political philosopher We welcome submissions addressing any aspect of teaching ethics across the curriculum. For this year’s conference we have a special interest in approaches for teaching ethics as it relates to interpersonal, civic, institutional, and community engagement. Possible topic areas include (but are not limited to) increasing civic virtues; promoting civil discourse; developing empathy and moral sensitivity; developing trust and collaboration; advancing racial equity and social justice; benefits of engagement and policy approaches (e.g., psychological, health, economic, political/legal, or enforcement); opportunities and outcomes; communication with community partners and media effects; ethical practices for student leadership, volunteering, & internships. Submissions are to be abstracts of no more than 250 words; session formats include papers, panels, case study analysis and discussion, poster sessions and pedagogical demonstrations. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit their work. Presentations are typically 20-25 minutes in length, allowing for 5-10 minutes of Q&A. Submissions are to be formatted for blind review and submitted via Easy Chair. In-person conference with limited slots for virtual presentation. Submission deadline of August 1. Early submissions (by July 1) receive special consideration. The Society sponsors a competition for the best paper submitted by a graduate student. The winner receives a $500 cash award and free conference registration. The Society publishes Teaching Ethics, and conference papers may be sent to the editors for publication consideration. The purpose of the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum is to stimulate scholarship on ethics and the teaching of ethics in all academic disciplines and to afford an opportunity for the exchange of research. The Society publishes Teaching Ethics, sponsors a yearly conference, and provides resources for ethics across the curriculum. The Society and Teaching Ethics are on wikipedia.
