Author Guidelines
These guidelines are provided to help authors of the AI Magazine Special Issue on National AI Institutes prepare their manuscripts for submission. While official author guidelines are available from the AI Magazine website, some may not apply to this special issue. Therefore, we put together this version of the guidelines to avoid any potential confusion. Please read the following guidelines carefully and use them to guide your writing to ensure the timely publication of your articles.

Suggested Content for Your Article
The AI Institutes cover a very broad range of AI applications in various disciplines. Thus, the contents of the articles likely will vary widely. You may consider addressing the following questions when organizing the content:
- What is the problem your Institute is addressing? Why is the problem important? What difference will it make if the problem is addressed?
- What value does AI offer for addressing the problem? What AI techniques is your Institute using to address the problem? How are you using them? Why do you believe that using AI will make a difference in addressing the problem?
- What foundational issues does this raise for AI itself? What foundational AI issues is your Institute addressing? What makes these issues significant? How is your Institute addressing these issues? How will this contribute to AI itself?
- Who all is on your Institute's team? Why is this the right team for addressing the overall problem? Why is this the right team for addressing the foundational AI issues?
- How do you measure the success of your Institute? What are some early results from your Institute's research?
- What are the broader impacts of your Institute? How does it contribute to education and workforce development? How does it enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion?
- How is your Institute acting as a nexus of collaborative activities? How is your Institute promoting multidisciplinary and multiorganizational activities?
- What scholarly impacts do you expect your Institute to have within five years from its inception? What is your plan to get from the present status to the desired impacts?
Writing Style
As the prospectus indicates, we want the articles to be meaningful to AAAI members, meaning the article must have depth and substance in AI. We also want the articles to be understandable by a computer science undergraduate student interested in AI. The articles must be expository and explanatory (and not full of technical jargon or mathematical formulae). In addition, we want articles to contain graphics (photos, figures, tables, charts, etc.) when appropriate (and not just dense text).
How to Prepare Your Manuscript
How long should the article be?
One page of AI Magazine is about 750-800 words depending on the contents and layout of the page. Please prepare an article of 5 pages in length. This includes the title, figures, and tables, as well as references. If the article is too long, AI Magazine will ask for a reduction, which may delay the publication of your article.
How should I format the article?
AI Magazine offers Free Format submission for a simplified and streamlined submission process, which means you don't need to worry about formatting requirements. You can submit your manuscript in the format of your choice, and Wiley will update the formatting for you.
