Digital Humanities is a relatively new, yet already well-established and vibrant domain of studying cultural objects with digital tools and methods. It consists in two equally important phases: converting the physical cultural objects into machine-readable objects, the so-called digitization, and the processing (analysing, mining) of the digital objects, the so-called digitalization. Much of the efforts of digital humanists targeted the manual, time-consuming digitization process, to the extent that digitization – and the data produced in this phase – often got confused with the domain of DH itself.
The current fourth industrial revolution shows once more the importance of data and resources. As spectacular as it is, the contemporary boom of Artificial Intelligence does not necessarily steam from completely new methodologies, but rather from the massive data fed to the algorithms. Hence, to take advantage of the endless processing possibilities of the cultural digital objects, Digital Humanities need first a large quantity and good quality of digital resources produced in the digitization phase. For this reason, the second edition of the conference Recent Advances in Digital Humanities is dedicated to resource development and all related aspects, such as, but not limited to gathering, curating, annotating, evaluating of data from a wide range of disciplines in the Humanities (broadly conceived), like philology, history, social sciences, psychology, geography, philosophy, arts, etc. Use cases and applications using data are most welcomed.
We encourage contribution on:
- text and image digitization, archiving and processing,
- computational methods in different fields (e.g. linguistics, literature, history, etc.)
- digital methods and corpora in education studies,
- cultural heritage,
- social media, hate speech, gender/race/mental illness/other biases detection,
- digital history and archaeology,
- digital epigraphy, prosopography, palaeography,
- digital arts and design, etc.
