Call for Proposals: TBLT 2027
Beyond the tradition: New contexts, settings, populations, and paradigms. 20 years later
We are delighted to announce that TBLT 2027 will be co-organized by the Department of Second Language Studies and the Department of Languages and Literatures of Europe and the Americas from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa and hosted by the Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche e Internazionali at the University of Siena in Siena, Italy from Sept 1-3, 2027.
Participants are invited to submit proposals exploring this year’s theme of “Beyond the tradition: New contexts, settings, populations, and paradigms. 20 years later.” Abstracts are encouraged to look towards the future and the innovative ways in which TBLT practitioners are applying TBLT to different contexts and educational situations, and moving the frameworks and paradigms of TBLT beyond its initial understandings.
Possible themes may include but are not limited to the following:
- Investigating how the field can be moved forward, whether through innovative research methodologies or teaching practices.
- Exploring how the affordances of new and emerging technologies can be applied to task-based learning in a broad range of contexts.
- Highlighting how TBLT can be applied in new contexts, settings, populations, and paradigms to meet the needs of a changing world.
- Considering how TBLT can incorporate more indigenous and marginalised perspectives.
- Examining how advances in teacher training and collaboration can meet the needs of current and future researchers and educators.
Abstracts will be accepted until October 31, 2026 and will be submitted using the following website: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=tblt2027
Notifications of acceptance will be sent in December 2026.
Types of Proposals

Research papers should share original research or make unique theoretical contributions. Paper presentations will be 30 minutes (20-minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion).
Poster Presentation: Poster presentations are designed to provide the presenter and audience with a one-on-one or small group setting in which to discuss issues related to research and practice.
Colloquia (90 minutes): Maximum of four clearly indicated separate papers, each with content that lends itself to a short presentation; ii) a colloquium organizer (who must be one or more of the authors of the individual papers); and iii) a clearly indicated schedule that allows for a minimum of 20 minutes of discussion following the presentation of the papers. Each colloquium submission must be done by the colloquium organizer, who submits the title and abstract for the entire colloquium and the titles and abstracts for the presentations within it. The organizer must collect the names, affiliations, emails, and language(s) of presentation of all presenters in preparation for proposal submission.
