VSAC 2024 - Call for Submissions
Join us for the Visual Science of Art Conference (VSAC) 2024 in person at University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, August 22 - 24, 2024.
The Visual Science of Art Conference invites talks, posters, and conversations connecting the arts to visual perception, including empirical, experimental, philosophical, phenomenological, and computational approaches. VSAC began in 2012, when Baingio Pinna organized it as a satellite symposium for the European Conference on Visual Perception (ECVP). Next year, ECVP will be organized in Aberdeen from Aug 25-29.
The VSAC organising committee looks forward to hearing from you about your work, and to three exciting Keynote addresses — by Dr. Nicholas Wade (University of Dundee), Dr. Rebecca Chamberlain (Goldsmiths, University of London), and Prof. Irene Brown (Newcastle University).
Important Dates
- Symposia submissions: until May 10, 2024
- Presentation, Conversation and Artwork/Demo submissions: until May 10, 2024
- Notification of acceptance: May 31, 2024

Symposium Proposal Guidelines
Symposia are sessions with 4-6 talks centered around a theme. Symposia are a great way to focus on a specific topic from a variety of perspectives. We particularly encourage multidisciplinary groups that include artists. Symposia proposals will be accepted until May 10, 2024.
To submit a proposal, please create a pdf with the information below, and send it to the email address vsac2024@gmail.com. Please contact us if you have any questions, need advice, or want to briefly pitch an idea.
- Symposium title
- Synopsis (100 words for program)
- Summary (500 words for organizers)
- Info about organizers (name, institutes, etc)
- Author names and affiliations
- Talk titles
- Talk abstracts (300 words each)
- Acknowledgements
Types of Submissions
There are three types of submissions — Presentations, Conversations, and Artworks/Demos. For these, the deadline to submit abstracts is May 10, 2024.
Presentations: There are two formats: Talks and Posters. If you submit a presentation, please provide a title, 300-word abstract, authors and affiliations, and detailed keywords. Please indicate your preferred presentation format. You may submit only one presentation as first/presenting author, but you can co-author as many as you wish.
Conversations: Conversations between artists and scientists have a special place in VSAC’s program. Conversations typically report collaborative research, but could also be a dialogue between two speakers. If the 300-word abstract is too limited, you can use the supplementary material.
Artworks/Demos: Artists and scientists may also submit a 300-word abstract and supplementary pdf describing artworks or scientific demonstrations which they would like to exhibit as part of one of the poster sessions.
Please submit all abstracts here: https://easychair.org/cfp/vsac2024
We look forward to seeing you in Aberdeen!
