Abstract

In recent years, many studies on composite panels and shells have been carried out by researchers at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, some of which have used the Finite Element Method. However, modeling and analyzing problems, especially shell structures with complex shapes, still faces many obstacles. To solve this problem, we have developed a MATLAB toolbox for modeling and finite element analysis of composite plate/shell structures, called Auto Shell Analysis Platform (A-SAP). A-SAP allows users to model different types of shells, from single-layer structures to multi-layer structures such as sandwich shells and multi-layer shells, and can be applied to a variety of materials such as: isotropic, laminate, carbon nano tube, auxetic, porous, FGM. More importantly, A-SAP's mesh generation module is connected to the powerful 3D finite element meshing software GMSH to automatically generate the element mesh of the structural model, so that it can be easily modeled shells with complex geometries. A-SAP is open source, so users can develop new material models or additional new finite elements. This article introduces A-SAP, covers the main features of A-SAP to date, and illustrates how to use it to create models, perform analysis, and represent results.
