Advances in sequencing technologies and bioinformatics have enabled the comprehensive analysis of plant genomes, revealing critical genetic markers and pathways associated with desirable traits such as yield, disease resistance, and stress tolerance. This knowledge facilitates the development of genomics-assisted breeding techniques, including marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS), which significantly enhance the efficiency and precision of breeding programs. Additionally, functional genomics approaches, such as gene editing and transcriptomics, are providing deeper understanding of gene function and regulation, further accelerating crop improvement efforts. Integrating genomic data with phenotypic information and environmental factors is crucial for developing robust, high-performance crop varieties. This review highlights recent advancements in plant genomics, discusses current challenges, and explores future directions for leveraging genomic resources to address global food security challenges.
