Abstract

Healthcare data security is a critical concern in today's digital age, especially with the increasing reliance on electronic health records (EHRs) and other forms of digital patient information storage. Protecting patient information is not only essential for maintaining patient privacy and trust but also for ensuring compliance with regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States. Sustainable data stores are an emerging approach to healthcare data management that prioritizes security, scalability, and efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. These data stores utilize advanced technologies such as cloud computing, blockchain, and encryption to safeguard patient information while also reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. In this paper, we explore various strategies for protecting patient information in sustainable data stores within the healthcare industry. We discuss the importance of encryption, access controls, and authentication mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data. Additionally, we examine the role of data backup and disaster recovery plans in ensuring the availability and integrity of patient information in the event of a security breach or system failure. These techniques allow for computations to be performed on encrypted data without compromising patient privacy, enabling healthcare organizations to leverage data analytics and machine learning while protecting sensitive information.
